Lisbon sketchbook spread

I’m still making work inspired by my own photogaphs and decided on this particular page to use colours that are really different from the greens and blues I’d be favouring for a long time.

I’m finding this larger sketchbook a bit tricky to work with. Not just because it’s bigger than the Moleskine I was using earlier in the year but also because not every double page spread lays flat. So that makes it more difficult to paint across a full spread.

I’m working with it though and finding ways around that problem. Here I started with the picture on the right hand page and I used the left hand page just for testing paint and pencil colours on. But once I’d finished I thought it would be nice to use that left hand page for something a bit prettier.

So I painted over my scribbles with this sardine can, which turned out to be much trickier to draw than I’d anticipated. It’s also a bit off-centre but I’m OK with that and like the feel of this whole sketchbook spread now.
