A House, Some Art Supplies and Autumn

Watercolour House

I thought I’d share a few of my recent sketches here in case you haven’t seen them. The first is a watercolour sketch of a cottage, which I did from a photo reference provided by Liz Steel as part of her SketchingNow Buildings course. This week is a review week for the course so I’m using that to give myself a bit of extra time to finish my outdoor drawing from last week, which I’m hoping to get done some time over the next few days.

Because I’m taking that course I’ve intentionally not given myself a specific daily drawing challenge like I’ve done over the past couple of months. I didn’t want to overload myself and I think that was a good decision, but I’m still trying to draw something each day, whether it’s a building, a pattern or something else.

A few days ago I was struggling to figure out what to draw so I did the obvious thing and sketched a small collections of pens and brushes that were sitting right in front of me.

Autumn watercolour illustrations

I’m a member of the ‘Insta Friends‘ drawing group on Facebook but I haven’t kept up with the weekly drawing prompts that the girls publish there and on Instagram. Now and again I come back to it, though. This week’s prompt was ‘Hello Fall’, so this sketchbook page was dedicated to lots of Autumnal illustrations.

If you’re in the northern hemisphere I hope you’re enjoying the start of Autumn – or Spring if you’re on the other side of the globe. I’m heading off on my travels tomorrow so if the wi-fi’s reliable I’ll be blogging from somewhere different next week – hopefully with some fresh inspiration and pictures to share.
