Creative Links 44: Sketchbook Flip Through Videos

Tommy Kane portrait

Every Friday (unless I’m on holiday like I was recently) I share a few links to things I’ve enjoyed online. This week I decided to share a few links on a single theme.

One of my favourite sketchbook artists is Tommy Kane and he recently posted a video on his Youtube channel showing his most recent sketchbook. It seems he was influenced to do this by one of his favourite artists, James Jean.

I get a lot of inspiration from looking at other people’s creative work so this week I decided to share 5 videos from 5 different artists (including Tommy and James) showing what’s inside one or more of their sketchbooks.

Even if you’re not a sketcher, I hope you enjoy having a look inside these sketchbooks, and if you come across any other sketchbook videos that stand out to you, please let me know about them in the comments below.

Love them all, especially Nicolas Weis! His detailed drawings are so beautiful.

Would love to do similar once my sketchbook is finished! I am starting to regret that my sketchbook is A5, I am finding it to be too big to carry around. Should I stop this one and get A6 instead?

I sometimes find my A5 one a bit too big too but I like the size of the paper for working on. I usually just take it with me when I’m carrying my rucksack (so I’ve got more space and it’s easier to carry). You could get a smaller one and have 2 sketchbooks on the go at once – a tiny one for carrying around and a larger one to use at home. That way you can keep the smaller one in your bag all the time and know that you won’t forget it when you go out.
