As planned, I took all of last week off from blogging. For about 3 months or so I’d been posting something on the blog every week day. Even though I tend not to write lengthy blog posts, every post included one of my drawings or photographs, each of which either needed to be scanned or edited in some way.
This started to feel like quite a lot of work and a lot of pressure to put on myself arbitrarily. So following last week’s break, I’ve decided that I’ll continue to post regularly but instead of 5 times a week, I’m aiming for two. It feels a lot more manageable and sustainable in the longer term.
On a daily basis though, I’m going to continue sharing a photo each day on Instagram. I find that using the camera on my phone is an easy way to keep up my photography habit without always needing to carry a bulky DSLR with me (although occasionally I share a photo taken on my DSLR on Instagram). I almost always have my phone with me and it’s a nice way to quickly capture details of my day, while concentrating mostly on the composition of the picture.
Anyway, today’s picture is a double page spread from my sketchbook. I’ve focused on one letter per page and I’m up to ‘E’. I’ve nearly filled this sketchbook now but I’m thinking of carrying on into a new one and working through the alphabet page by page. When I’m feeling tired and run down as I was last week I find that doodling and lettering feel like easy ways to fill a few sketchbook pages while still managing to rest.
I’ve got a few other sketches I want to get done too but there’s no rush and most of them will become easier now that the weather’s starting to warm up a bit so hopefully I’ll have some outdoor drawings to share some time over the coming months.
