Flower Doodles

Black line drawings of flowers

Unlike yesterday, this definitely is a page from my sketchbook that I’ve not posted on here before!

Another artist whose work I like is Lisa Congdon. This page is one of a few in my current sketchbook that was inspired by her work.

Although I really enjoy drawing from observation and illustrating things from my everyday life, now and again I fancy doing something a bit different. This is the kind of drawing that I can do while watching a TV programme so it’s great for winter evenings or days when I’m tired but still want to draw something.

Like any kind of drawing, not every one turns out perfectly, as you can see here, but it’s just another way that I get my pen to paper sometimes.

Lovely, as always, Cathryn! I also doodle while watching the TV, or listening to music–it’s quite relaxing. And I’ve always loved to draw flowers. I remember that you introduced me to the work of Lisa Congdon–I enjoy her, too. The link to her site isn’t working for me here–not sure if it’s just my computer, but I wanted to let you know.

Thanks Joy and thanks for letting me know about the link. I’ve had a look and hopefully it should work now. I agree that doodling can be quite relaxing, especially if you approach it without too many expectations. I remember the post you wrote about sitting quietly with a blank page and letting your pen just lead you. That ‘zone’ you got into with that is similar to how I feel sometimes with drawing. It’s definitely a good thing I think! 🙂

Thanks. I think my lines tend to be stronger with this kind of drawing because there’s not really a real life subject for me to compare it to (which can make me hesitant or cause me to over think). It’s something I’d like to develop with my other drawings too :).
